Round checkerboard cakes are created by forming concentric rings of different colored cake (think a bullseye). Many will opt to purchase a checkerboard kit at a local specialty baking store. Each kit includes the pans needed for making this masterpiece. Others will bake two round cakes, each in different colors. An equal-sized ring of cake is cut from within each cake, then swapping the equal sized rings of cake from one to another.

Important: Your round checkerboard cake will only look like a checkerboard if cut properly. Slices need be cut in the traditional V shape. Cutting a round cake into square pieces would be disastrous!
